Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights AIDS
The first thing I remember wanting to change in the world was finding a cure for AIDS. I remember reading Ryan White: My Own Story and being so angry that he contracted a disease due to medical mishap and the hate he received from the community because of that. Shortly thereafter I found BC/EA and have stood behind and supported their work ever since.
City of Philadelphia: Mural Arts Project
At some point I feel in love with street art, and that feeling won’t go away. The first thing I look for when I am visiting someplace new is outdoor murals that I have to see. Murals Arts Projects embraces all that art can do. They say it best through their Mission, Golden Rule and Core Values. My favorite - “The sublime power of narrative drives our lives. Stories well told will shine transformative light into dark corners.”
Headstrong Foundation
Nick and I graduated high school together before he was off to play lacrosse at Hofstra. While there he was diagnosed with non-Hopkins Lymphoma. Nick founded Headstrong Foundation. The Foundation continues to live out Nick’s legacy through education and support to families living with blood cancers. It is a wonderful feeling to see so many people standing behind their mission to spread support and education, especially through the lacrosse world. Here is a little about Nick’s story from his family and coaches.
World Wildlife Fund
Eventually it really clicked to me that as humans we have a role; a role I know I have previously neglected. I know this may be cheesy, but I remember seeing this PSA and getting the connection that our actions are harming the environment and destroying the earth. Oh, and I love polar bears.
